The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on October 29.
