In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
