World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
